In some Arthurian accounts, Morgause and Morgaine are the same person - priestess of Avalon, the mother of Mordred, and also a conspirator in Arthur's downfall. I much prefer Bradley's separation of the two characters, where Morgause is a sister to Igraine, becomes wife of King Lot of Orkney, and knows just enough magic to wreak havoc on Camelot and mold Mordred into his father's murderer (perhaps because I identify a bit with Bradley's interpretation of Morgaine!).
