about

This song was written the same year as Cry of the Babe (early 1990s) when my co-Choir Director and I challenged each other to write a Christmas song before midnight mass. Both songs were finished moments before midnight mass and debuted that night! We have exclusive rights to each other's music from that era under the JoPa Music collaboration, which went on for many years. The song has been somewhat embellished from the original version.

lyrics

Noel, noel
Today is born the King of Israel.
Rejoice, rejoice!
The Savior of us all, Emanuel.

Come and let us give praise
Worship him who comes to save
A tiny child
Who's born this day.

Go and follow the star
Up above to lead us on
To where he sleeps
Upon the hay.

Shepherds, kings, and wise men three
Falling down on bended knee
From on high
A child king.

Noel, noel
Today is born the King of Israel.
Rejoice, rejoice!
The Savior of us all, Emanuel
Emanuel, Emanuel!
